***5K Walk-A-Thon Against Domestic Violence***
Franklin Medina, 42, stabbed his estranged wife several times before setting fire to an apartment and jumping to his death off a third-floor balcony at the Mary Ellen McCormack housing development in South Boston. The woman survived the attack. The couple’s two children were home at the time of the attack. According to the president of the Mary Ellen McCormack Tenants’ Task Force, six families were displaced by the fire. This was May, 2010 but Domestic Violence continues to affect many.
The ‘Walk’ is an initiative organized by local pageant title holder, Lovern Augustine, whose platform is Awareness Domestic Violence. All proceeds of Walk will benefit Victim Services at Penelope’s Place Crisis Shelter/Health Imperatives, Inc. and Family and Community Resources (both in Brockton, MA). The ‘Walk’ will signify our community’s stand against this epidemic and help countless victims continue to get the support and resources they need through the remarkable agencies listed.
